When compared to traditional rigid couplings, flexible couplings, or fluid couplings the FGC line is in a class all by itself. Since the FGC has no physical connection between the motor and load, there is no way for vibration to be transferred between the two. MagnaDrive couplings tolerate the most misalignment because torque is literally being transferred through thin air. Since these couplings utilize Permanent Rare Earth Magnets, there are no electrical components that could possibly fail. It is important to note that the couplings are designed to minimize Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) and they emit less EMI than the associated motor.
The United States Navy currently uses FGC's on pumps and other rotating equipment on various fleets and all ship classes including guided missile cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. The FGCs passed the Navy's brutal 9-G Shock test. The Navy found that they will be able to reduce their maintenance staff dramatically due to implementing this magnetic coupling technology.
